Classroom Layout
Our classroom has been designed in order to create a welcoming feeling of community. Students desks are arranged in pairs so that students can engage in meaningful partner work throughout the day. This provides a break in large group instruction and allows students to form close relationships with their desk buddy. If students are struggling to work effectively with their seat buddies, then the class will come up with a solution in a class meeting.
As you can see from the layout, It is very easy to move throughout all areas of the classroom. The desk are arranged in a way that allow student interaction while providing me the access I need to engage with students one-on-one. There is also a very comfortable reading nook which students can use to read or to take a break if they are feeling overwhelmed.
You cannot tell from this layout, but in my classroom, there are several bulletin boards around the room. One bulletin boars contain the classroom expectations: be kind, be respectful, be safe, and be responsible. Another bulletin is home to the students best work. Students who are exceptionally proud of their work can chose to post their projects on the Best Work bulletin board. Students can also nominate other students work. A third bulletin board is home to our CHAMPS expectations. These expectations let students know what behaviors are expected throughout the day.
